What better way to spend the holidays than wielding your dual katanas and duking it out with tentacled Oni from the pits of Jigoku!

Elseworld: Gatchaman God Phoenix

Here's a trip down memory lane. Kagaku ninja tai Gatchaman! Although I wasn't lucky enough to watch the original anime of the series, I did follow the western edited version titled Battle of the Planets/ G-force. It was heavily toned down show minus the mass death tolls of mecha battles, language profanity and an enemy leader with gender issues.

Anyway, here's an "elseworld" take on the youngest member Junpei and little background of how (and why) i envisioned him as he is:

Berg Katse has succeeded in killing the Gatchaman team by sabotaging and blowing up the God Phoenix (Gatchamans spaceship). Earths other defenses soon fell one by one.

A little over 14 years has past, majority of Earth's nations have been conquered. Only a few remaining resistance groups continue fighting the Galactors forces. Then a figure resembling one of the Gatchaman resurfaces dealing strategic attacks on Galactor's facilities and operations.

A darker Junpei returns after years of recuperation and preparation...one who is hellbent on revenge. He dons a new armor and a new name. One that serves as a reminder and as a symbol of his quest....

this has been on hold for some time and i have forgotten i had this saved in my hard drive. other projects keeping me busy so i cant devote time to finish this. so for now its posted as a "wip" (work in progress) and as a reminder that i have to finish this when time permits.

I miss playing L5R (Legend of the Five Rings)! Its a ccg that i have enjoyed every aspect of... from the complexity of the game to the rich background of the stories.

This is a samurai concept representing one of the clans of the game- the Dragon Clan.

First here's a finished sketch of the Ogre Lord sporting the latest assortment of pillaged armor and a newly sharpened battle axe ready to cut through flesh and bone. Its been a while since i've done armor details and i'm liking it so far...=)

the 10 min. habit

Here are a few practice sketches I've done. Some of these are a few years old already. It's always a good idea to keep practicing still life and human anatomy, specially those dynamic poses so you don't get that stiff awkward look.

If you want to practice your dynamic pose sketching skills I recommend visiting www.posemaniacs.com. They have this app where it randomly shows the human figure in different poses for 30 secs. Its a great way to practice and a useful source of reference too.
